Low power ambient mode

All 6 themes were designed with burn-in safety in mind. Even the photorealistic theme Stint12 includes a full-fledged ambient screen, but using outline components (outline hands are added in v4.11 of the Theme Pack):

Extend to fill 360°

If we have fewer than 4 arcs enabled, we can choose:

  • to have gaps for missing arcs (default):

    2 arcs shrink
  • alternatively, we can extend the remaining to fill 360°. Their starting angles change depending on which arcs are missing. Play around turning off various arcs to see how it affects their arrangement:

What else is new in v10.18

  • New features:
    • Battery efficient range type watch battery complication (available to other watch faces too!) with watch symbol (including burn-in safe ambient mode variant). Less frequent update, slightly less accurate, but more battery friendly. Tap the complication for instant refresh, double tap to open Essential mode settings on TicWatch (coming in v10.18.5).
    • Battery efficient range type phone battery complication (available to other watch faces too!) with phone symbol (including burn-in safe ambient mode variant). Indicates if disconnected from phone for an extensive time (>20min). Tap for instant refresh, double tap for “Find my phone” functionality (rings your phone) if option is enabled for the Phone Battery bubble in the Wear Cloud Editor on the phone (you can still hide the phone battery bubble).
  • Layouts:
    • New “half+half split” smart auto layout: activated automatically when clock bubble is vertically shifted beyond the midline (up or down) – all bubbles appear above or below.
    • “Full Clock Only” mode might be renamed to “No bubbles” in the future (still considering for v10.18.5)
    • We can add text fields (and arcs) to watch face in “Full Clock Only” (or “No bubbles”) mode
    • More bubbles can fit into the Split layout
  • UI:
    • Tap top icon on any settings screen on the watch to go back to the previous screen (little indicator arrows were added)
    • Long press text field icons in the Favorite Cloud Settings… screen on the watch to quickly toggle text fields without visiting their settings screen

      Favorite cloud settings
    • You can now long press to edit items near the edges of the inactive watch face (long press center for watch face selector!). Edit screen appears when you lift your finger after a long press
  • Bug fixes and corrections
    • Indicator arrow positions were incorrect on rotated screen when using Full Color inactive mode.
    • The default theme pointer was not restored when applying a pack theme that did not include gauge+pointer
    • Custom theme applied Text Clock even when unselected
    • Watch face sometimes did not go into low power ambient mode
    • Further optimized watch face redraws for even better battery efficiency
    • Fixed the non-overlay mode clock bubble disappearing issue after exiting settings screens where we used preview

Tips

Here are some tips to bring the most out of the new arcs and layouts

  • The new “ShareTech” theme works well with the Text Clock theme pack, (other 5 is not so good, but all 6 new themes come with complete characters sets enabling worded clock in 10 languages – sorry no cyrillic this in these)
  • Both the new “Half+half”, and the analog themes work well with the notification icons plugin. The lower half of the split layout and the empty center of the analog face is useful to show a few or many notification icons and the peek card:
  • You can add bubbles to the Stint12 theme if you move the arcs closer to the edge (but not all the way to still show the dial. Check out Joseph Rubin’s take on this theme:

Please test and report any issues

I give this version now into the hands of beta testers. You are the first to enjoy these new features, but in return for the early access I ask you to report any problems you find:

  • crashes, hangs, regression issues (especially if they are reproducible)
  • operation problems (unexpected behavior, mistakes)
  • grammatical errors in text
  • layout color / visibility / alignment problems (it helps if you include a screenshot)
  • illogical or missing functionality
  • further improvement suggestions

Thank you for your help!
